Are you here to find out the secret to growing long, healthy hair? Well, let me start out by saying, there is no secret. People ask me all the time what my “trick” is and how do I get such long and healthy hair. I am happy to share a few of my fave products and tips and tricks with you, but there are a few big things I can credit my hair health and length to:
- Good genes (thanks mom + dad)
- No chemical dyes/perms (my hair color and texture is completely natural)
- Only wash/style 1-2x per week
People never believe me, but my family, friends, husband, and hairstylist will vouch for me: I have never dyed, highlighted, or permed my hair. I have wanted to for sure, but never pulled the trigger. Part of me is scared I will never get my natural blonde back and also part of me is just lazy and cheap and knows I can’t keep up with the maintenance. With that being said, the lack of chemicals on my hair has for sure helped with its health. And once I started limiting my washes my hair got even healthier. It took a while for me to get used to because I used to be an everyday washer, but I have grown and changed my ways! Haha. While, I’m blessed with good genes, I also do take some extra steps to help with my hair health and hair growth.
Today I am going to share with you the at home hair mask I started making in high school and my favorite biotin tablets to take. I know there are a lot of products out
there between gummy hair vitamins and hair growth supplements and I’m sure they all work just as well as what I’m about to share with you. I just really want to encourage yall to do your research before investing a lot of $$$ into a product. No amount of money spent on a product is going to make your hair magically grow overnight and if they are advertising that it will… well, they’re either lying or you are gonna have some crazy side effects!!! So do you research and be careful!
If you want to save some money and make your own at home hair mask, I’ve got you
covered. It is simple and really affordable. You only need 4 things: travel size shampoo bottle, coconut oil, castor oil, and avocado oil. All you do is mix these oils into the bottle – two parts coconut oil, one part castor oil, and one part avocado oil. Mix it up and apply to your hair from roots to ends! I leave it on anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour or sometimes even overnight (use a shower cap to protect your pillows!). You can wash it out pretty easily, but sometimes I do a double shampoo to help get it all out because I hate having that oily hair feeling! I do that about once a week or once every other week and notice a pretty big difference!
And as for biotin, it really is all the same so you can just run down to your local pharmacy or Walgreens and grab the cheapest bottle you can find. Seriously! I love the maximum strength kind by Naprol in the purple bottle at walgreens, but I’ve also used this brand from Amazon before too! Really there is no need to spend a lot of $$$ just for a special name brand! Be careful and like I said, do your research!

Needed this! You have beautiful hair! My hair is super dry & frizzy, but I can not stand the way it feels and looks on Day 2 of not washing it.. therefore I wash my hair almost every day. How did you get over that?!

PatriciaAw thanks! And I was right there with you!! It took my hair about 1-2 months to adjust to the decreased wash schedule. I used a lot of dry shampoo to help on Days 2-3. hats to cover it up if I could, and wore my hair up more in braids and messy buns! I also recommend trying to put dry shampoo in your hair at night and sleeping in it to help soak up oils over night! Eventually your hair will adjust and you will start producing less oils and your hair will be able to use their natural oils and stay healthy! Hopefully that helps!!
